Ok, I am making a revelation; I am the type of person that likes to follow the rules.
Anyways, in 2007 I joined a Crossfit gym, and across the wall was written in big letters: “don’t drink milk”.
And you know what? I bought into it. I stopped consuming all dairy. I was pretty competitive at the time, and was doing Ironman’s through a Crossfit Endurance protocol.
I believed what I read.
I believed that I could perform better without dairy, go figure right?
Me coming from a dairy farm stopped eating dairy. All the craze was paleo at the time. To make matters worse, I had a Crossfit Endurance coach who wanted me to eat Paleo, in “Zone diet blocks” aka starvation diet. I was cutting out valuable food sources that my body needed.
And the ironic part…..my hubby and I are the proud owners of a family dairy farm in central Alberta, Canada. It truly is a family ordeal, with my kids helping out whenever they have free time.
My point is, don’t believe everything you are reading. You don’t even have to believe me, that’s up to you.
You should just do what feels right to your body. If you have an allergy to some kind of food, don’t eat that food. But the more foods you cut out, the more resistant your body becomes. The less you are eating, the more you will react in your stomach to “foods your body is not used to”.
In those dairy (and grain free) years I contracted Lyme disease, and got pretty sick. It really sucked. I got sick and didn’t get better on a dairy free and grain free diet. Not only that , in fact I only got more sick, and it fuelled binge eating.
It took me some years to gradually get dairy (and grains) back into my diet. And I am also proud to say that I included chocolate M&M’s back into my diet. And you know what, my life is a whole lot better. And so is my Lyme.
Just eat real food on a day to day basis, and splurge 1x week on your favourite Carb treats!
Fuel your body and mind right.
