Just hearing the word “vacation” used to make my heart skip a beat.
I knew that it was code for: “you get to go be someone else. Eat with abandon. Party like a rockstar!”
Normally, as you know, I try to really be diligent about what I am eating, trying to avoid binges, and in the past, always struggling with keeping bulimia at bay.
But on vacation, my eating was more like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.
So today I want to tell you about how I started my weight loss journey in 2015.
The journey that put me on the Rebel Carb Party Lifestyle.
And that set me free from the cycle of dieting/binging/diet/repeat.
Back in 2015, about a week before I was set to leave for an all-inclusive, five-star Mexican resort vacation (great timing, Jetty!), I reached out to, and hired a health & nutrition coach.
She helped me discover the keto and carbs lifestyle. A lifestyle that finally, truly made sense to me.
We met over Skype, to start discussing my plans for the holidays. And I can remember saying, like everyone does…
“Let’s start after my trip…”
Of course, it usually is more like this: “I’m finally going to start…on Monday”.
…meanwhile, it’s only Wednesday!
Lucky for me, my coach recognized this behavior, and put her foot down:
“No, you’re going to start now. This is the exact right time. You’re on vacation, at a place you’re going to enjoy, BUT this is going to be the first time you don’t gain weight on vacation.”
I was shocked.
Before this moment, I thought vacation was the time you fell off the wagon into a pile of delicious treats and fun drinks.
Normally, it was day one of veggies and fish, and day two of eating all the desserts, followed by the rest of the days just plain losing it…I would end up feeling like a failure.
I was an all or nothing person. And the failure would leave me with shame. And that hurts.
Believing that I couldn’t do it.
And worse, I would spend my entire vacation(s) feeling consumed with those feelings of failure and shame. I wasn’t actually enjoying anything.
Not my friends and family. Completely missing out on my beautiful surroundings. The gorgeous buildings, culture, etc.
I was taking a vacation into shame, failure, and sadness.
But this vacation was different.
My coach and I figured out a plan to fully implement my new lifestyle, the Rebel Carb Party Lifestyle.
I was freely enjoying foods throughout my whole vacation. Fats, carbs, chips & guac (um…YUM). I even had some of the desserts I love!
Notice I said…SOME. I enjoyed dessert, just not with every breakfast, lunch & dinner.
And as a previous and long-suffering binge eater: I felt really satisfied.
I did great during the vacation, and the best part?
No more feelings of shame or guilt. The feeling of being a failure (when I should be enjoying myself) was gone!
I felt like a new person.
All of those negative thoughts were replaced by me being present for my family, and truly enjoying the culture, and enjoying the food.
I didn’t feel fat for the first time, EVER, on a vacation. I felt great.
When we came back home a couple days later, I actually felt leaner. I didn’t weigh myself or anything, but I could feel my pants fit better, and that was just amazing!
To be completely honest with you, if you’re skeptical of all this at this point: I don’t blame you.
I was skeptical at first, too. But this was the first vacation I didn’t beat myself up, didn’t gain weight, and truly enjoyed my time away.
And I’ve repeated it many times since.
This lifestyle. It works.
In every situation. At a party, where you’re with friends and want to cut loose. AT CHRISTMAS! Even at an all-inclusive resort vacation…
Other excuses you might be thinking of for times it won’t work but definitely does:
- Out on a lunch with your girlfriends
- Dinner date out with your husband
- Your kid’s birthday!
It is amazing. It worked for me, so I know it can for you too.
You don’t have to feel guilty. Not just losing weight, but reaching your healthy weight, it’s possible for you.
You just have to take that next step.
P.S. – I was published in Luxe Life magazine! I am so excited, and would love for you to subscribe to the mag, and check me out in the Motivation Section!!
